Doha Büyükelçiliği 04.08.2014

"The Turkish Ambassador in Doha Ahmet Demirok declared the opening of a polling centre to the Turkish citizens in Doha for the Turkish presidential election on Saturday and Sunday, starting at eight in the morning until five in the evening.

He said that the embassy has prepared all the required equipments for this event to receive the voters, clarifying that it the first time the Turkish citizens have the opportunity to vote directly in the election, which is one of the most prominent manifestations that characterizes the democratic countries; the Turkish citizens will elect their president based on their conviction and freedom of choice which is a very important matter.

He added that Turkey is a democratic state since decades; electing the President was before through the Parliament and this is the first time where the people elect their president directly, pointing out that there are three candidates competing to win the post of President of the Republic of Turkey who are the current Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Dr. Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu the Former Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Salahuddin Dmartash co-chair of the Peace and Democracy Party.

Some modern polls point that Erdoğan has the luck to win the presidency of Turkey, where the Turkish Prime Minister advance on the rest of the candidates by 50% and has a great chance to win in the first round of the elections, but it is too early to talk in this regard because only the elections will reveal the winner.

About changes in the Turkish politics after the presidential election and its impact on the Turkish citizen, Ambassador Demirok said: We do not expect many changes between the current rule of the country and the rule in the new president period because the Constitution is the Constitution, but the difference lies in Erdoğan desire in enhancing the powers of the President by the Constitution.

About the Qatari - Turkish coordination toward the efforts to stop the aggression in Gaza, "Demirok" said that since the beginning, Qatar and Turkey are working together in this regard and we are in direct contact with the Qatari side in order to find a solution to stop the bloodshed in Gaza, adding that these efforts by the two sides come in the framework of cooperation with the international actors like the United States, the United Kingdom and other countries, adding: We look forward to a prompt solution that puts an end to the tragedy of Gaza people.

About the events in Gaza, "Demirok" stressed that Turkey is keen to find a peaceful solution that would put an end to the bloodshed and it is seeking with the international actors to reach this solution; there were many statements by the Turkish Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in this regard which condemn strongly the brutal attacks by Israel.

He said that we certainly are not satisfied at all about the use of force against the Palestinians, adding that Turkey is concern towards the international community policy that turns a blind eye for what is happening, stressing that the victim and the executioner cannot be equated and there is inequality between the two powers.
The Turkish Ambassador condemned the targeting of civilians in the combat operations, saying that Israel is doing its utmost to destroy the buildings and hospitals that raise the concern of Turkey."
