Speech by Ambassador Ahmet Demirok at Quranic Tree Planting Ceremony

Ahmet Demirok 20.03.2016

Mr. Minister,
Your Excellencies,
Distinguished Guests,

This is indeed a great pleasure for me to host you all at the Embassy for the Qur’anic tree planting ceremony. I am excited today, because we will have a chance to raise environmental awareness in the light of Islam, the religion of peace, tolerance and understanding.

We should endeavour more to preserve the natural resources, especially trees within their natural habitats in accordance with the instructions of our religion. Islam expresses great concern for the environment. A number of verses in the Quran and the hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (sav) have addressed this issue. In this respect, Prophet Muhammad (sav) pointed out that there are benefits in planting trees, which will last until the Day of Judgment.

As a country with a Muslim majority population, we are very pleased to support this elegant project and I would like to thank Qur’anic Botanic Garden and HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser in particular for the idea of such a meaningful Project.

Dear Guests,

2015 was celebrated as Turkey-Qatar The Year of Culture. We have successfully accomplished some 40 events throughout the year. Yet, the whole year was not enough to carry out all events we had planned. Today’s event is one of them and actually marks the finalé of the year of culture.

The cultural year has been a great opportunity to release the potential in cultural and social fields and to cement our relations at grassroots level. I see with great pleasure that Turkish and Qatari people are geting more and more interested to know each other.

Turkey-Qatar 2015 the Year of Culture has been one of the most successful cultural years. All events were valuable and elegant, but Turkish Festival at MIA Park, football match between our national teams and “Muhteşem Yüzyıl” exhibition were outstanding events of the year. Opening up the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center crowned the year of culture.

I believe there is a lot to share and cooperate between our brotherly countries. Our determination to deepen and diversify cultural and social ties with Qatar is limitless. Establishing stronger ties between our peoples paves the way for catching up potential in all fields.

To end my speech, I would like once again to express my gratitude to the Quranic Botanic Garden and Ms Fatima bint Saleh Al Khulaifi for this organization and our valuable Guests for honoring us today.

Thank you.
