H.E. Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, H.E. Air Vice-Marshal Ghanim bin Shaheen al-Ghanim, Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces,

Dear Ambasssadors and Representatives of Diplomatic Missions, Distinguished Guests,

I would like to warmly welcome you all on this occasion of Turkish National Day. We are celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. I would particularly like to thank H.E. Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, for being with us in this very special evening.

I am excited today, because this is the first National Day organized in our new premises and, as a new ambassador in Doha my first encounter with people in Qatar at such a wide spectrum.

I look back at the journey of my country and see that it was not an easy one. As in elsewhere in the history of Turks, great sacrifices were made and a nation was built from scratch. Successive generations in Turkey in the course of these nine decades, managed well to create value-added for the homeland; and that is how we now have a competitive, robust and liberal economy, young and skilled population and functioning institutions in the country. I hereby pay tribute with great gratitude and respect to those who took part in elevating the status of our country in the world, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, being first and foremost.

As regards Turkey-Qatar relations, I am pleased to observe that we have excellent bilateral ties, drawing its strength from our shared history and culture. Our relationship is burgeoning in political, economic and cultural fields. I hope this trend will gain further strength in the years to come.

Qatar and Turkey has shared interests in promoting peace, stability and development in our common region, circumstances of which shifts rapidly. Our political relations are not only of bilateral nature, but also cover a wide range of discussions on regional affairs. The high-level visits made this year are clearly indicating the two countries’ determination to further promote their cooperation.

Besides our political cooperation, relations between our two peoples are also intensifying as is evident in our growing economic relations and increasing number of tourists traveling between the two countries. Qatar presents a significant destination for Turkish contractors and companies and they have undertaken and completed multi-billion dollar projects here. Bilateral investments are on the rise. The steady increase in trade turnover is also notable.

Given this course in our relations, I believe that our two brotherly countries, as bastions of stability in this region, will keep serving to promote security, peace and create interdependence in our region.

Before concluding, may I welcome you warmly once again and wish you a pleasant evening.

Thank you.
